Janet McNaughton has volunteered to be the Sunshine coordinator. Sunshine coordinators are part of the Pastoral Care Committee and send out greeting cards to shut-ins and others with significant life events. Janet will be compiling a list of folks to send cards to on behalf of the church. Please contact Janet if you have names and addresses of people who you think might appreciate a card.
NSI Collection for May: Bars of Soap & Rolls/Packages of Bathroom Tissue
This month, we are collecting bars of soap and rolls/packages of bathroom tissue.
The Fair Food Alliance and Us Uriel Zelaya-Perez Hobson Hall – After 10:30 Service
Two years ago at convention, the Diocese of Southern Ohio voted nearly unanimously to support the boycott of Wendy’s.
Why? Because Wendy’s has refused for years (since 2005) to support measures to protect farm workers who pick the tomatoes for the burgers from exploitation and wage theft through the efforts of the Fair Food Alliance.
When I was in Florida earlier this year I was able to spend a morning at the Fair Food Alliance headquarters in Immokalee and hear a presentation to a group of visiting college students about the struggle for human rights carried out by an coalition of farm workers and people of good will, particularly college students and faith communities around the country. I was so impressed by the clarity of the presentation that I asked Uriel Perez to share it with us at St. Stephen’s when he was in town for the next Wendy’s shareholders’ meeting in June. Graciously he accepted and will be with us AFTER the 10:30am service on May 27.
In order to have time to both hear his presentation and to have a little food to tide us over I am hosting a light brunch for those who attend. The presentation will only last about 30 minutes but I suspect it will change your life as it changed mine.

Following the successful Nehemiah Action, BREAD now enters its investment phase. The BREAD organization is “owned” by its member congregations. They suggest that BREAD team members invest $200 each year in the organization, and the St. Stephen’s BREAD team have all committed to invest at least that amount individually. As a community that supports social justice, we ask the individual members of this congregation to invest in BREAD, and we have set a goal of $3200. Please prayerfully consider your tax-deductible investment. Checks payable to “BREAD” may be placed in the offering or mailed to the BREAD office (404 S. 3rd St., Columbus 43215).

Book Club for June
Consider attending Book Club! All are welcome, and it is a great way to get to know people. BookClub’s June meeting will be on Wednesday, June 13 starting at 6:30 PM with a potluck meal. Please bring food or beverage to share. We’re meeting at Sarah Luckay’s home (614-890-0635, email@example.com). Kindly let Sarah know ahead of time if you plan to attend so she may plan for the right number of people. After dinner, we’ll be discussing Wild Things: The Joy of Reading Children’s Literature as an Adult by Bruce Handy. If you wish to read ahead for July, the book we’ll be discussing then is Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds.

You are invited to participate in fellowship with the women of St. Stephen’s in the Spirit of Friendship, Encouragement, Support, Gratitude, Hope, and Love as we share a moment in life’s journey together. It is a time out from daily doings to just BE in Friendship over a cup of tea with conversations to feed the soul.
We meet twice monthly: the first Thursday morning of the month will offer a “Coffee Klatch” from 9:30-11:30am for those available to meet during the day (kiddos welcome)the third Thursday evening offers a “Girls Night Out or In” from 7:00-9:00pm.
Always looking for monthly hosts and/or open to ideas for places to meet or excursion sites conducive to conversation & new experiences.
