Background Checks for Gun Safety Now! Interfaith Action and Vigil on Sunday

I write with a heavy heart and deep sadness as we consider the news from Texas. Yesterday an 18 year old gunman killed nineteen children and two teachers at Robb Elementary School. It is not enough for us simply to say “our thoughts and prayers are with them.” Our prayers require accompanying action. To that end, Adam Davis of University Baptist Church has been working with the Interfaith Council to create a march and vigil on Sunday afternoon at 4:30 PM. Our plan is to gather, pray, march, and then write postcards in support of H.R. 8, a bipartisan bill that will require background checks on all gun purchases, and which is currently being considered by the U.S. Senate. Here is the schedule:

Sunday, May 29 2022

4:00 pm – Gathering and Sign Making

4:30 pm – Prayer and March

5:30 pm – Postcards to Elected Representatives

6:00 pm – Depart

Gather on Green Space at 50 W. Lane Ave

Free Parking behind Newman Center and University Baptist Church, parking lot access by West Norwich and High St.

It is my sincere hope that you will join us.
