What’s So Bad about Plastic?

Why participate in Plastic Free July? Because the world is overwhelmed with single-use plastic. It is not only a pollutant, but it is on track to damage the health of living creatures all over the planet.
40% of all plastic is single-use.
Every year, about 8 million tons of plastic ends up in the oceans
It can take 400 years for plastic to break down
Millions of animals are killed by plastics every year
Plastic breaks down into microplastics, now found in the air we breathe and in municipal water supplies. They have been found in human blood, lungs, gut, and other organs. Recent studies show they may alter cellular function.
