St.Stephen’s will be starting a centering prayer group that will meet weekly on Tuesdays at 7 AM, starting on December 1st and will be led by Jamie Massa. There will be two introductory sessions for those who have never practiced Centering Prayer and would like to learn more on Monday, November 30th (please note that this is a change from the original posting) at 7:15 PM. Weekly sessions and the introductory sessions can be accessed with this link: https://zoom.us/j/91986278073
Centering Prayer is a Christian approach to meditation where the individual sits in stillness to dwell with the Inner Divine for 20 minutes. When thoughts enter, one repeats a chosen word or phrase to return to non-thinking and quiet. If you would like to learn more about it, view the video below:
We will be using Thomas Keating’s book, Open Mind Open Heart as a guide. After 20 minutes of silence, we will practise Lectio Divina with a short passage from scripture or Thomas Keating’s writings and end with prayer requests.
Everyone is welcome and no previous experience is required! We will begin with some training on the practice and it is very easy to learn.
Jamie Massa has been practicing centering prayer since the 1990’s.
