Adult Formation in Lent

Ash Wednesday, which marks the beginning of Lent, is on February 26th, and after that Adult Formation is Lent begins. Here’s what we’ll be doing:

Liturgics Round Table. During the five weeks of Lent, we’ll be holding a Liturgics Round Table between the two services, from 9:30 – 10:15 in Hobson Hall. This will take the place of regular Bible Study. You don’t need to do anything to prepare, just show up and participate in the conversation! The topics for the five weeks will be:

Why do we have ritual? (March 1)
Why does St. Stephen’s practice Open Table? (March 8)
Why do we wear vestments? (March 15)
Why does St. Stephen’s use expansive language? (March 22)
Is it okay to use readings that aren’t from the Bible in worship? (March 29)

Exploring the Christian Spiritual Life on Thursday Nights. Come learn about the contemplative tradition within Christianity, as we spend Thursdays exploring Evelyn Underhill’s five stages of mystical development. Our merry group of explorers will meet from 7:00 – 8:30 PM in the Chapel. These are the topics that we’ll cover:

Awakening of the self to God (March 5)
Purification of the self (March 12)
The Illuminated Life (March 19)
